Update, from Selwyn Crawford and Travis Hudson in Aledo:
Both teens were home-schooled after withdrawing from the Aledo school district, according to the local superintendent.
Jami Evans, their mother, was a former first-grade teacher and assistant principal in Aledo, but she left the district in 2004, Superintendent Dan Manning said.
Manning said Jake withdrew from Aledo High School in January, while his 15-year-old sister withdrew in January 2010.
Because of the family?s close ties to the school district, Manning said, counselors were available to all Aledo ISD campuses today. Several pastors were called in to assist with the counseling.
?We have a crisis counseling team in place on all our campuses,? Manning said. Because Jami Evans once ?worked for the district, it?s not only going to affect students, but staffers as well.?
Manning said that ?safe rooms? will be set aside where students can feel free to go and express their emotions, ask questions or simply talk about what they are feeling. He said that in situations such as these it?s important that youngsters feel like someone is listening to their concerns. It?s important for adults, as well.
?In a case like this, we?ll have a faculty meeting with our teachers, a place where they can go apart from their students,? Manning said. ?There, information is shared with the faculty that is coming from adults so they?ll know what?s going on.?
Many of those who knew the Evans family didn?t want to be quoted by name today, but they described the family as deeply committed to their Christian faith, with kind hearts and high integrity.
?We are good friends with the family and this is just a tragedy to all of us,? said one neighbor who asked that her name not be used. ?We?re just in a state of shock here in the community. They?re a fine family all around.?
At the gated River Creek community, where the family moved into a $450,000 house in 2000, neighbors had no desire to speak to the news media.
?The community is hurting,? one woman said before driving away.

A Parker County teen was arrested overnight after authorities say he confessed to shooting his mother and sister.
Jake Evans, 17, is being held on suspicion of capital murder in the deaths of 48-year-old Jami Evans and her 15-year-old daughter, according to Sheriff Larry Fowler.
Deputies arrived at the family?s home near Aledo shortly after 12:30 a.m. when Evans called 911 to report the shooting, the sheriff said.
Evans surrendered to authorities and admitted he used a .22-caliber revolver to kill his mother and sister, whose name was not released. The boy?s father was out of town on business.
Investigators believe the teen acted alone and there are no additional suspects, the sheriff said.
Evans is still being questioned by authorities but should be booked into jail later today.
