Gov. Andrew Cuomo is again reaching into the television industry to fill the role of his administration?s top communications official, announcing the appointment of a former NBC Universal executive to his cabinet.
Allison Gollust, who was executive vice president of corporate communications for the television network before her departure in 2010, will take over as Cuomo?s director of communications. She replaces Richard Bamberger, a former television news producer who is leaving for the private sector.
?It is an honor to welcome Allison to our team and I thank her for bringing her talents to New York state government,? Cuomo said in a statement. ?Allison is a consummate professional who has a wealth of experience in communications and management. Her extraordinary work ethic, intellect and dedication will be essential to this position and I look forward to working with her.?
Gollust served in a variety of positions at NBC from 1998 through 2010, most recently as its top corporate spokeswoman after previously serving as the messenger for NBC News. She left in 2010, just as Comcast completed its purchase of the major network.
From the press release:
?Communication in this day and age moves at a lightning pace and serves a critical role in informing the public,? Gollust said in a statement. ?I look forward to working with the administration to continue spreading the Governor?s message of a new New York throughout the state.?
