It's guilty pleasure week at the cineplex. "Apollo 18" proposes to offer actual footage from a secret moon mission the U.S. made apparently after a Soviet lunar expedition was attacked by aliens. The "we didn't make this expensive movie, we just found the video" gimmick is getting a little old, but this plot is pretty irresistible. However, the film's release date has been bumped four times, so that's a little worrisome -- usually doesn't speak well for a film's quality. (Opens Sept. 2. We think.)

The oft-quoted "Scarface" says hello to your little friend at 475 movie theaters across the nation for just one night only. The event marks the 1983 movie's release on Blu-ray. We'd suggest leaving your chainsaw and deskful of white powder at home. (Aug. 31 at select theaters, see www.FathomEvents.com.)
This summer, we've seen 3-D Smurfs, 3-D kid comedy, and more 3-D superheroes than you can throw a pair of those funny glasses at. But as summer winds down, Hollywood finally offers up what 3-D was made for. "Shark Night 3D" doesn't really need a plot summary, does it? There will be sharks. There will be bikinis. There will be blood and possibly severed limbs flying at the camera. This is just preparing us for fall's "Piranha 3DD." (Opens Sept. 2.)
Video: Watch the trailer for 'Shark Night 3D' (on this page)If soaking up these end-of-summer guilty pleasures isn't for you, you can take in a more serious film with "The Debt." Helen Mirren plays a former Mossad agent who learns that a Nazi war criminal she and her crew supposedly killed is still alive. (Opens Aug. 31.)
TV
Yet another reality show about an unusual job. Well, selling used cars doesn't seem that unusual to us, but the new Discovery show "Carfellas" focuses on reformed ex-con Mike DeLucia and his pals. Kind of looks like what would happen if some minor pals of "The Sopranos" started a dealership. (Premieres Aug. 29, 10 p.m., Discovery.)
Filmmaker Janus Metz and cameraman Lars Skree spent months embedded with a platoon of Danish soldiers in Afghanistan, even putting cameras on the soldiers' helmets. The resulting film, "Armadillo," won high honors and has been critically acclaimed. While the soldiers could turn their cameras off if they chose, they often didn't, meaning that a controversial event involving Taliban fighters is captured for all to see. (Aug. 30 on PBS's "POV," check local listings for times.)
DVD
No big movie releases this week, but some critics loved "Skateland," which focuses on a roller-rink manager and his pals in early-'80s small-town Texas. If Blondie, Foreigner, Jordache jeans and El Caminos send you back in time, get a hold of your old-school buddies and check it out. (Out on DVD Aug. 30.)
Some crazy movies out this week. Any plans to see one? Or if you saw a film this weekend, what did you think? Tell us on Facebook.
