A rare species of anglerfish has been filmed for the first time by US scientists.

The deep-dwelling fish, Chaunacops coloratus, was first described in 1899 from a dead specimen but has not previously been seen alive.

In this clip, filmed using a remote-operated vehicle, you can see the fish swimming and lying on the sea bed.

The discovery was made by the team from the Monterey Bay Aquarium Research Institute (MBARI), California, US.

Tips for Arizona parents who need to name a guardian for children ...

Naming a guardian for your children may be one of the most difficult tasks of estate planning. Is there anyone in your life, besides a spouse or partner, who you think would be capable of raising your children in a manner that is similar to your own parenting style and family values? Does this individual have the capacity to love your children just as much as you do? If the individual already has children, will he or she be willing to care for more children?

These are very difficult questions to address, but as we mentioned last week on our Scottsdale probate law blog, parents should go through the legal process of naming guardians for their children so that they have some say in who is to take care of their minor children in the event that something were to suddenly happen to both parents.

In addition to naming a guardian in your will, you can also make sure that your children receive the financial resources they need at the right time by using other estate planning tools such as trusts.

You can give named guardians permission or another responsible individual permission to handle your minor children's finances if you die or are no longer capable of making financial decisions for your children. Parents may consider creating trusts that dictate how any money left to minor children should be spent.

There are several types of trusts folks can create depending on their specific needs and goals. Parents with minor children may use a testamentary trust. This trust is created when a parent dies. It holds assets parents have chosen to distribute to children after death. Trusts can specifically outline when and how money should be spent for children.

Parents should understand that providing detailed instructions for guardians and those who have been chosen to handle minor children's money is important, but parents also need to make sure there is some room for flexibility. There are many things a parent may not be able to control, but parents can make sure that they have taken the basic steps to ensure someone will be able to care for their children as best as possible if something ever were to happen to them.

Four firms vying for ?10m prize

Four renewable energy companies which will compete for the ?10m Saltire Prize have been named by Scottish ministers.

The competition was set up to encourage the development of wave and tidal energy devices in Scottish waters.

ScottishPower Renewables, Aquamarine Power, Pelamis Wave Power and MeyGen will each attempt to produce the most electricity over a two-year period, using only the power of the sea.

Projects will be launched off Lewis, in the Pentland Firth and Orkney waters.

The latest phase of the contest will run until 2017.

The announcement was made by Deputy First Minister Nicola Sturgeon in Orkney, where members of the Scottish Cabinet will meet on Wednesday.

Ms Sturgeon also announced plans for a Saltire Prize-sponsored doctorate to study how marine energy projects can maximise economic energy production while protecting the environment.

SALTIRE PRIZE COMPETITORS

  • MeyGen's tidal energy project in the Pentland Firth will initially consist of six tidal turbines
  • Pelamis' wave power device at Farr Point will use the motion of waves to generate electricity
  • Aquamarine's Oyster wave energy converter is to be deployed off the Isle of Lewis
  • ScottishPower Renewables want to create a tidal energy project off the north coast of Caithness

She said: "With the European Marine Energy Centre (EMEC) in Orkney hosting an array of devices, we should not lose sight of how far this vibrant young industry has come in recent years.

"The Saltire Prize sets a considerable challenge to competitors - reflecting the huge potential of harnessing marine energy.

"The four competitors have stepped up to the challenge, and in so doing can drive each other still further and faster forward, towards the goal of large-scale commercial electricity generation from the power of the world's seas and oceans."

MeyGen's chief executive, Dan Pearson, said: "The bar set by the Scottish government for this prestigious award is a high one. The challenge requires highly efficient devices, and a high level of resource and robust technical capability that is comparable to conventional renewable energy power stations."

Hornung Pedersen, the boss of the Edinburgh-based firm Pelamis, said: "Pelamis was delighted to be the first official applicant for the Saltire Prize and we're working intensively to deliver the robust commercial technology required to win it, and through that the compelling 'win-win' of renewable energy generation and industrial opportunity that this sector represents for Scotland."

Aquamarine Power chief executive, Martin McAdam, said the prize would act as a "global catalyst... bringing together the best brains and financial muscle to crack one of the great challenges of our age".

Alan Mortimer, head of innovation at ScottishPower Renewables, said: "The demonstration projects being developed now will be crucial in helping us achieve larger commercial projects."

As well as announcing the doctorate and the companies vying for the Saltire Prize, Ms Sturgeon also launched a junior Saltire Prize photography competition called The Power of the Sea, with renowned Scots photographer David Eustace among the judges.

Apple hits all-time high after court ruling

Apple shares spike on $1 billion judgement against Samsung.

By Roland Jones, NBC News

The most valuable company ever just got more valuable.

Shares of Apple hit an all-time high Monday, approaching $700 per share, after the maker of iPhones and iPads won a bitter patent fight against Samsung Electronics.

Apple?s share price was lately up 2.1 percent at $677 on the Nasdaq market after rising to an all-time high of $680.87 earlier in the day. Apple?s share price has risen 68 percent so far this year.

A U.S. jury in California on Friday found that Samsung had infringed on Apple?s mobile-device patents, ordering the South Korea-based Samsung to pay Apple more than $1.05 billion in damages.

Analysts say the ruling could boost Apple?s position in the smart phone market ahead of the expected launch of its new iPhone model this fall. Smart phone companies using Google?s Android operating system, a rival to Apple?s iPhone, may be required to consider design changes to their products.

The potential impact on the Android smartphone system, which could disrupt the balance of power in the mobile-device market, boosted shares of BlackBerry-maker Research In Motion, up more than 2 percent Monday, while Nokia, another handset company, saw its shares rise 8 percent.

Google's share price fell 1.2 percent to $670, while Samsung?s stock price was lately down 7.5 percent, wiping more than $12 billion off the South Korean company's market valuation.

SF archbishop-elect arrested for DUI, apologizes

Michael Short / AP

In this photo from Friday, July 27, 2012, newly-appointed Archbishop Salvatore Cordileone speaks during a press conference held at St. Mary's Cathedral in San Francisco.

By Vignesh Ramachandran

Updated at 11:05 p.m. ET: Rev. Salvatore Cordileone, San Francisco's Roman Catholic archbishop-elect who was arrested early Monday for driving under the influence in San Diego, apologized, saying he felt "shame for the disgrace I have brought upon the church and myself."

Rev. Salvatore Cordileone, who last month was named the next archbishop of San Francisco, was arrested early Saturday morning, according to police. Authorities stopped him at a checkpoint near the San Diego State University campus, the AP reported.

Cordileone, a San Diego native, was released on $2,500 bail about 11 hours after his release, a San Diego detective told Reuters. He had been booked on a misdemeanor DUI charge after he was stopped at a police checkpoint and failed a field sobriety test.

In his apology, released as a statement by his diocese, Cordileone said: "I will repay my debt to society, and I ask forgiveness from my family and my friends and co-workers at the Diocese of Oakland and the Archdiocese of San Francisco. I pray that God, in His inscrutable wisdom, will bring some good out of this."

Cordileone, 56, is currently the bishop in the Diocese of Oakland, Calif. Previously, Cordileone was an auxiliary bishop in San Diego, the AP reported.

He is expected to take over San Francisco's top spot when the current archbishop, 76-year-old George H. Niederauer, retires in October.?Cordileone must make a court?appearance?on Oct. 9, the AP reported.

?

?Michael Ritty, a private practice canon lawyer in upstate New York, told the AP that since Catholic bishops are accountable to the pope, potential discipline would have to come from the Vatican.

"If there was anything, it would be handled in Rome, most likely by the Congregation for Bishops. Depending on the question or type of criminal charge, it might go directly to the Pope or as directly as you can get," Ritty said.

Cordileone is known for being a strong, public opponent of same-sex marriage, and he is expected to govern 432,000 Catholics under his new post in the largely gay-friendly Bay Area. He'll also oversee the bishops in?Honolulu, Las Vegas, Oakland, Reno, Sacramento, Salt Lake City, San Jose, Santa Rosa and Stockton, according to the AP.

The Archdiocese of San Francisco office declined to comment.?A voice mail left in the office at the Diocese of Oakland was not immediately returned Monday afternoon.

The Associated Press contributed to this report.

How to improve BG's ?

First of all, sry for my english, I'm french.

I would like ppl to post here ideas to improve BG. BG

is a great invention, but I think it's not at its

greatest lvl. That's why I'd like ppl to say how they

would like BG to be, and GM to say if any change is

possible AND if they have the will to change it.

Without it it's just ideas to talk u know, i'm bored

between BG :p

1. King of the hill : main pbm is that most of ppl

don't understand the rule so they r hiting each other

while holding team is trolling away. This BG could

really be improved.
2. Kill count : funny BG, where team position is very

important
3. Roah : Same thing
4. 3 rounds 2 teams BG : in my opinion best competitive

BG even tho there are still ppl getting invisible

between rounds and that really need to be fixed.

Ideas :
- Reducing max ppl in Group BG from 6 to 5 or 4,

because AOE are OP in BG (=> gladis team ... haha :p)

and 6v6v6 are really a bloody mess ^^
- Show top ladder IG to recruit new players
- Time group and solo BG ! Why is this random ? We

should know when will group BG will pop and when solo

will pop.

(AP) ? Republicans kicked off Mitt Romney's national convention Monday with the banging of a gavel before a smattering of delegates as Tropical Storm Isaac led them to cancel most of the opening-day program.

Party Chairman Reince Priebus pounded the gavel, cited the convention rules requiring a 2 p.m. Monday start and then immediately recessed the session. It took less than two minutes.

Priebus then instructed delegates to look up at two "debt clocks" ? one that reflects the actual national debt and a second that counts up rising debt during the convention. It was quickly in six figures.

The convention will hit full speed on Tuesday, just as forecasters say the storm could reach hurricane strength and make landfall somewhere between Mississippi and New Orleans.

"Our sons are already in Tampa and they say it's terrific there, a lot of great friends. And we're looking forward to a great convention," Romney said as he prepared to rehearse his convention speech Monday at a New Hampshire high school auditorium.

He said he hoped those in the storm's path would be "spared any major destruction" but indicated there were no thoughts of canceling the convention in Tampa, where Isaac's heavy rain had all but passed.

Tom Del Beccaro, a California delegate and chair of the state GOP, predicted the one-day delay in full convention events would supercharge the rest of the week's meeting.

"I think there's going to be a lot of bottled up energy, and I think that's going to show," he said.

But Sally Bradshaw, a Florida Republican and longtime senior aide to former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush, was not so sanguine. "It's a mess all around and it's fraught with risk," she said. "It's not good for anybody ? particularly the people impacted by the storm."

It was hardly the opening splash that convention planners had hoped for, and it risked the juxtaposition of Republicans partying as the storm batters toward land ? almost exactly seven years after Hurricane Katrina devastated New Orleans.

"Obviously we want to pray for anyone that's in the pathway of this storm," Party Chairman Priebus said Monday on NBC's "Today" show, "but the message is still the same: that all Americans deserve a better future and that this president ... didn't keep the promises he made in 2008."

The party hastily rewrote the convention script to present the extravaganza's prime rituals and headline speakers later in the week, and further changes were possible. Planners said Monday's speakers would be worked into the schedule later in the week.

"We're going to continue with our Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday schedule," said Russ Schriefer, the chief convention planner.

At least one speaker bowed out. Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal announced Monday that he would not attend as the storm gathered strength and bore down on his home state.

As the weather threat to Tampa diminished, delegates focused on party message and the near-term task of making Romney the nominee and working to defeat Obama in November.

"There's a mission here," said Gary Harkins, a delegate from Brandon, Miss. "We have to nominate a candidate for president. Our mission is to save America from becoming a socialistic state."

Vice presidential candidate Paul Ryan, speaking in his hometown of Janesville, Wis., before heading for the convention on Tuesday, delivered a message that echoed at meetings and news conferences all across Tampa ? the Obama presidency has been a failure, and Romney offers a different course.

"''We're not just picking the next president for a few years," he said. "We are picking the pathway for America for a generation."

??? Ryan warned the United States under Obama has faltered.

??? "It's a nation in debt, it's a nation in doubt, it's a nation in decline," he said.

Sen. Rob Portman reinforced the message in Tampa, telling the Ohio delegation it was time for Obama "to stop blaming others and take responsibility."

"There are families all over Ohio that are suffering as a result. He hasn't measured up to his own standards," he said.

Democrats, for their part, said that if the Republican convention proceeds as planned Tuesday, they would resume their on-site efforts in Tampa to counter the GOP message. Democrats planned to focus Tuesday on Romney's record at Bain Capital and had several employees who worked for companies impacted by Bain in Tampa to talk to the media.

Democrats halted activities in their so-called "war room" Monday after Republicans essentially canceled the first day of the convention.

The weather was a constant concern for some. Jeanne Luckey of Ocean Springs, Miss., whose family lost a beachside home to Hurricane Katrina, said friends were helping secure their inland home for Isaac.

"It's a very busy time, certainly, but we've got to take care of the business of the party and make sure we get Governor Romney nominated," Luckey said. "We have a lot of work to do between now and November."

The storm was a complication, at best, for a party determined to cast the close election as a referendum on Obama's economic stewardship and Romney as the best hope for jobs and prosperity.

The concern was two-fold: that Tampa, hosting thousands of GOP delegates, would get sideswiped by the storm; and that it would be unseemly to engage in days of political celebration if Isaac made a destructive landfall anywhere on U.S. soil.

"You can tone down the happy-days-are-here-again a bit," said Rich Galen, a veteran Republican consultant in Washington. "Maybe you don't have the biggest balloon drop in history."

In Washington, aides said Obama was being updated at the White House on the storm. He was still planning his two-day campaign trip to Iowa, Colorado and Virginia, beginning Tuesday morning.

In a boost to Obama's convention next week, Florida's former Republican Gov. Charlie Crist was added as a speaker. Crist had announced on Sunday that he was endorsing Obama, saying he was the correct choice and criticizing his former party for its move to the right.

For all the weather concerns, a mix of partly sunny skies, fast-moving clouds and occasional rain covered Tampa at midmorning Monday as the outer bands of the tropical storm delivered unsettled conditions.

Traffic was light as streets around the arena were blocked off and security patrolled the area.

The roll call of state delegations affirming Romney as the party's nominee now is to unfold Tuesday, an evening capped by speeches from Ann Romney and an assortment of GOP governors. Ryan gets the prime-time spotlight Wednesday, and Romney closes out the spectacle Thursday night, his springboard into the final leg of the contest. That's all if the storm brings no further complications.

Polls find a tight race, and it's one that is likely to be settled in a small number of battleground states.

Republican office-holders past and present say the economy is the key if Romney is to expand his appeal to women and Hispanic voters.

"We have to point out that the unemployment rate among young women is now 16 percent, that the unemployment rate among Hispanics is very high, that jobs and the economy are more important, perhaps, than maybe other issues," said Arizona Sen. John McCain, who lost to Obama in 2008.

The Romney campaign released a Spanish-language radio ad with son Craig's testimonial to his father.

Armstrong called humble hero who served country

When Neil Armstrong walked on the moon all those years ago, he made his country believe that anything was possible with ingenuity and dedication ? and in the process became of America's greatest heroes, his friends, colleagues and admirers said Saturday after news that the former astronaut had died.

"When I think of Neil, I think of someone who for our country was dedicated enough to dare greatly," said former astronaut John Glenn, who went through jungle training in Panama with Armstrong as part of the astronaut program and was a close friend. He said Armstrong showed exemplary skill and dedication.

The idea of Armstrong as a humble pilot who served his country above all echoed around the country Saturday, by visitors to museums that fete his accomplishments and by his former NASA colleagues. Armstrong died Saturday at age 82 from complications resulting from cardiovascular procedures, his family said.

In California, visitors and staff at the Griffith Observatory paused for a moment of silence. At the Armstrong Air and Space Museum in Armstrong's hometown of Wapakoneta, Ohio, a black ribbon hung over a plaque of Armstrong in the museum's entryway and a U.S. flag was lowered in Armstrong's memory.

Tourist Jonathon Lack, a judge from Anchorage, Alaska, said he decided to visit the Air and Space Museum in Washington, D.C., after hearing of Armstrong's death.

"What really hit me is that he was in his 30s when he walked on the moon," said Lack, who is 42. "That made me think about how little I've done."

He saw in Armstrong's death a reminder of an America where people dreamed big things and sought to accomplish the inconceivable.

Armstrong commanded the Apollo 11 spacecraft that landed on the moon July 20, 1969, capping the most daring of the 20th-century's scientific expeditions during the climax of a heated space race with the Soviet Union.

Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin spent nearly three hours walking on the lunar surface, collecting samples, conducting experiments and taking photographs. Aldrin, who became the public face of the moon landing after shy Armstrong recoiled from the public eye, said his colleague's leap changed the world forever and became a landmark moment in human history.

"Whenever I look at the moon, it reminds me of the moment over four decades ago when I realized that even though we were farther away from Earth than two humans had ever been, we were not alone," he said. "Virtually the entire world took that memorable journey with us. I know I am joined by millions of others in mourning the passing of a true American hero and the best pilot I ever knew."

The third astronaut on the mission, Michael Collins, circled the moon in the mother ship 60 miles overhead while the other two went to the surface. "He was the best, and I will miss him terribly," Collins said, according to NASA's website.

The Apollo 11 command module Columbia is on display at the Air and Space Museum, and visitors there Saturday gathered around it to remember Armstrong and his accomplishments.

Bob Behnken, the chief of the NASA Astronaut Office, said Armstrong's historic step was the reason many became astronauts.

"Neil Armstrong was a very personal inspiration to all of us within the astronaut office," he said. "The only thing that outshone his accomplishments was his humility about those accomplishments. "

Daniel Zhou, a student at Armstrong's alma mater Purdue University in Indiana and a member of Students for the Exploration and Development of Space, said Saturday was sad day.

"He will always be a source of inspiration for our generation, and for the generations to come, as we ask ourselves, 'Why explore space?'" Zhou said.

At New York's Intrepid Sea, Air and Space Museum, a 1960 photo of Armstrong hangs near the space shuttle Enterprise ? showing a youthful NASA pilot standing and smiling next to the X-15 rocket plane he was testing.

On Saturday afternoon, many among the hundreds of visitors filing past the mammoth white display didn't know he had died.

'I'm shocked!" said Dennis McKowan, 49, a computer network engineer from Sunnyvale, Calif., on a business trip to New York. "I used to skip school to watch the Apollo launches."

He was a child when he watched the moon landing.

"How do you top that? No one has gone farther yet."

Team building | So say your business is partner you go nuts with a ...

This opportunity comes the challenge of choosing the right people to work with. People can search where you build trusting relationships is important. Often, a good Alliance can later turn into a large partnership for a different project or business.

As one of the greatest things about in the business itself the flexibility is enables it, alliances, and work with other companies to offer a full range of services to our customers. Actually this can greatly increase our visibility and new customers, we can never have found that if we constantly moved our own small circles imagine.

So say your business is you partner drive you nuts

Starting a business with a partner is like any other relationship? with a twist. It can be quite expensive both financially and emotionally to walk away from the partnership. In addition the increased workload and possible loss of funding can cause stress, which which to deal with the energy no one has.

As in all relationships requires the ability, the balance of trade fair and just business practices maintain effort on both sides. Without balance, that relationship and your business could be in danger.

Manages the question then remains, how some people in partnerships and others struggle?

1. Establish clear limits: decide, who is doing what, when, where and how, and then you adhere to those limits. This can often be difficult, especially if the partner a family member or a friend. Some customers had clearly set great success in the construction of contracts, the boundaries. Keep not only the load in the balance, but also your feelings.

2. Clarify vs. confrontation: most of us avoid confrontation, but spend enough time with clarification. We might think that clarification is a need or requirement may be confrontation. A simple statement to clarify and to eliminate future misunderstandings. Clarification achieved two purposes. This eliminates the danger of mind reading, which leads to misunderstandings. Secondly, it keeps open the way of communication and honestly that is an integral part of a healthy partnership.

3. Effective communication: people feel respected, if they feel that they will be heard. Listening without interrupting, is a principle of active listening. Whether we choose as partners in a business or personal relationship, there are basic elements that must be present. Your partner should share similar, if not the same values on financial matters, work ethic, family responsibilities and objectives. Try to create a balance between knowledge and personality, in the selection of business partners. If an individual has the ability and willingness to learn, the training in the complexity of your company is a realistic expectation. On the contrary, if the individual who may be well educated, has a personality not in accordance with, the relationship to the failure is doomed. The essence of a personality cannot be changed despite some opinions. Although you can have chosen with care as a partner, unforeseen circumstances eventually can change your relationship. You cut your ties amicably as possible and continue with what you know on the best structure of your company. Remember to take into account borders, clarification and communication. Choose a person such as mind and personality, your strengths compliments. Willing to invest, to train the time if the personality is a match.

One of the keys to effective communication and conflict resolution is the understanding of us and how we think and also to understand, are also wired like other. If you, the different styles of the personality and their blends understand ? start, people to see, because with more understanding! Motorola Photon Q 4G LTE (Sprint)

It's been a long time since Sprint's had a great keyboarded smartphone. The Motorola Admiral??was pretty good, but the BlackBerry-style keyboard and push-to-talk capabilities weren't for everyone. And the Samsung Epic 4G?paired a top-notch smartphone with a big, comfortable keyboard, but that was more than two years ago. Enter the Motorola Photon Q 4G LTE. It's got a killer keyboard, a fast dual-core processor, and support for Sprint's brand new 4G LTE network. It's kind of huge, but it's the best keyboarded smartphone on Sprint, and well worthy of our Editors' Choice award.

Design, Call Quality, and Network
The Photon Q looks like a cross between the original Motorola Photon 4G, and the Motorola Droid 4??over on Verizon Wireless. It measures 5 by 2.6 by 0.5 inches (HWD) and weighs a hefty six ounces. Most good keyboarded phones are packing some extra bulk, but it's something to consider when making your decision. Luckily, a lot of that extra weight is put to good use in the Photon Q's absolutely fabulous slide-out QWERTY keyboard.

Essentially the same as the one you'll find on the Verizon Droid 4, the five-row keyboard on the Photon Q is going to make many typists very happy. The rubbery, laser-cut keys are well-separated, ultra-tactile, and brightly backlit. I love the row of number keys up at the top, as well as the directional pad and the Caps Lock key. Simply put, this is the phone to get if you like to message more than talk. And that's a good thing, since the Photon Q doesn't boast the best call quality?more on that in a minute.

Sprint isn't making too much fuss over it, but the Photon Q is ULE Platinum Certification, which is the highest level of environmental performance recognized by sustainable requirements established by UL Environment and Sprint. So it's also a good choice if you're looking to make an environmentally conscious decision. It's also splash proof, though you shouldn't go taking it in the shower.

The display is an increasingly standard (for Motorola, anyway) 4.3-inch, 960-by-540 LCD panel. It's not nearly as impressive as the 4.8-inch high-res behemoth of a screen on the Samsung Galaxy S III, but it looks bright and sharp enough to satisfy most users.

The Photon Q is a world phone that supports Sprint's brand new 4G LTE network as well as its much slower 3G network. It also supports tri-band (850/1900/2100 MHz) HSPA+21 and quad-band (850/900/1800/1900) EDGE for international calling. Unfortunately, you can't swap out the built-in SIM card while travelling, so you'll be stuck paying some pretty pricey rates while abroad.

In this year's?Fastest Mobile Networks?tests we found Sprint's 3G network to be the slowest of the nationwide networks. We also got a chance to test Sprint's 4G LTE network and found it to be a vast improvement. Unfortunately, it's only available in a limited number of cities right now, so chances are you'll be stuck with significantly slower speeds until it comes to your town.

Sprint LTE is not yet available in New York City, where we tested the Photon Q, so all of our tests were conducted over 3G. Reception was fine, though call quality just mediocre. Voices sound fuzzy in the phone's earpiece and a little harsh, especially at louder volumes. Transmissions through the mic let through some background noise, and voices tend to crackle. The phone paired easily with my?Jawbone Era?Bluetooth headset?and the Motorola voice command system worked fine. The Photon Q uses Bluetooth 4.0, which allows various smart watches and fitness devices to communicate with the phone. The speakerphone sounds fine, but isn't loud enough to use outdoors. And despite the large 1785mAh battery, talk time was just average at 6 hours and 59 minutes.

Processor and Apps
The Photon Q is powered by the same 1.5GHz dual-core Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 processor as the Galaxy S III. That means it's packing plenty of power for absolutely anything, from casual social networking to super high-end gaming. It shouldn't have trouble running any of the 500,000+ apps in the Google Play store.

Create major sales impact by learning how others do it | Sales ...

Nizan Guanaes

It?s always a good idea to look to your left and right and learn how others are getting it right.? A case in point is Nizan Guanaes, a Brazilian communications expert. A little-known but accomplished entrepreneur he cultivated a larger-than-life image and grew to be a major player in the communications industry.

In studying what Guanaes achieved, Rosabeth Moss Kanter drew several lessons about how to create major impact in business. ?We translated her insights to the world of sales.

  • Think big and be there first. Take a look at your account strategy for your top 10 accounts and figure out how you can have a major impact with those customers. ?A good first step is being out front.? ?Work with your customers to define an issue vs. waiting and being responsive after others define the problems.
  • Leverage others to increase impact. The day of the lone wolf has passed. ?To achieve major impact you need to mobilize others in your company to support your effort.? Leverage your technical folks, customer support, and anyone else inside your company that interacts with your customers.
  • Create continuous value. Creating major impact requires substantial effort over an extended period of time but you need to provide value to the customer all along with way.? In each interaction with the custom ask yourself the question ? What tangible bit of value did I provide the customer on this call?
  • Seek out gems. Develop a comprehensive understanding of the customer and their issues.? In doing so, you?re likely to find gems that the competition or even the customer isn?t aware. ?Helping a customer to address a need before it becomes a problem is another way to have major impact.

In today?s market it is difficult to differentiate yourself by simply doing a better job of doing what everyone else is doing ? think big and be there first.

IRA Trust, Transfer and Beneficiary Questions Highlight Mailbag ...

This week's Slott Report Mailbag really strikes at the importance of proactive planning.? One concerned consumer is worried his mother won't receive any of her deceased husband's IRA and others are inquiring on taxes, penalties and transfers.? Retirement planning, IRAs and the nuances that come with them are so important to all families.? We hope you are enjoying the summer and learn something from the questions, answers and situations below.

1.

Presently my spouse and my two children are the beneficiaries of my IRA. I also have a living trust. I would like to make my trust the beneficiary, but my advisors tell me that it will cost more in taxes to do this. My trust would have more control over the inherited money for my children in case of divorce. What do you advise? The IRA is over 2 million with no basis.

Answer:
It depends on what type of trust it is. If the trust is what?s known as an accumulation or a discretionary trust where the trust does not have to pay out all IRA distributions to the trust beneficiaries, then whatever IRA distributions not paid out are accumulated in the trust and taxed to the trust at the higher trust tax rates. However, if the trust is a conduit trust, the trust beneficiaries must receive all IRA distributions from the trust and they are taxed at the beneficiary?s lower personal income tax rates. All required distributions to the trust will be made using the life expectancy of the oldest trust beneficiary. At the death of that beneficiary, required distributions continue to be made to the trust using that life expectancy. The trust would also need to have the appropriate language in it regarding the payment of debts and expenses of the estate and for the Uniform Principal and Income Act (UPAIA) so that it will work with the IRA rules.

2.

Can I transfer money from my IRA to my husband's Roth IRA? I am 35, and he is 36.

Thank you!

Gail Clements

Answer:
No. The only way your IRA funds can be transferred to your husband?s IRA is in a divorce or after your death. Even then, it would have to be transferred to a similar IRA, for example an IRA to IRA or a Roth IRA to another Roth IRA. In this case, you cannot transfer your IRA into your husband?s Roth IRA.

3.

Hi Mr. Slott,

My father just passed away July 10. We are still mourning and trying to put our lives back together following a 10-week hospitalization. I was contacted by my parents? broker, who told me we had problems with my Dad's IRA. We changed brokerage firms in 2009, the broker came to my parents? home and we set up their accounts. Both my Mom and Dad have individual IRAs and then a joint account. The call I received was that my sisters and I were beneficiaries on my Dad?s IRA, meaning my mother, (age 81) his surviving spouse, gets nothing. My parents are not wealthy people and that money is needed to secure my mother?s care and future. What do I do? Is the broker accountable at all for setting up a bad account? Do I need a lawyer, if so what type of lawyer?

Any help is greatly appreciated

Respectfully,
Debra Miller

Answer:
You and all your sisters as beneficiaries of the IRA should consider disclaiming the funds. There are special rules for disclaiming an IRA, such as the disclaimer must be filed within nine months of your father?s death, and other rules. Disclaiming an IRA will involve the use of an informed financial advisor and an estate planning attorney. Before you disclaim though, make sure you know who will get the funds. Check the broker?s document to see if it addresses a disclaimer or has a default beneficiary.

Trading company says it lost $440 million on glitch in minutes

NEW YORK (Reuters) - Knight Capital Group Inc is being forced to raise money after an erroneous trading position wiped out $440 million of its capital, the firm said on Thursday, causing its shares to shed half of their value.

Problems at Knight, one of the largest firms that buys and sells stocks to provide liquidity to the markets, emerged at the beginning of trading on Wednesday.

"The company is actively pursuing its strategic and financing alternatives to strengthen its capital base," Knight said in a statement. Its shares were down 49.7 percent at $3.49 in morning trading after hitting an all-time low of $3.15.

Knight has already approached JPMorgan Chase & Co for financing, according to a report on Fox Business Network. But it was unclear if that financing would be granted. A spokesman for JPMorgan declined to comment.

Wednesday's technology breakdown roiled the prices of some 140 stocks listed on the New York Stock Exchange, undermining fragile investor confidence in the stability of U.S. stock markets.

Speaking on Bloomberg Television, Knight Capital Chief Executive Officer Tom Joyce said the firm had "excess capital right now." On Tuesday night, it had put in new software that had a bug, he said.

The firm said it was in compliance with capital requirements and that it had traded out of the entire position.

"This issue was related to Knight's installation of trading software and resulted in Knight sending numerous erroneous orders in NYSE-listed securities into the market," Knight said. "This software has been removed from the company's systems."

The trading glitches are the latest in a series of market snafus that have eroded retail investors' confidence.

Others include the botched Facebook Inc initial public offering, the 2010 "flash crash" in which nearly $1 trillion in market value disappeared in minutes, and the failed public offering of BATS Global Markets, a rival to the NYSE and the Nasdaq.

Specialists in securities industry operations issues said the wave of recent problems pointed to an unsettling reliance on automated trading facilities that is robbing investors of confidence in the markets.

"We're losing the human control in our business," said Joe Anastasio, a founding partner of financial services consulting firm Capco who specializes in stock trading issues. "We've been so focused on automated throughput of orders and high-volume execution with no human intervention that we have lost the human logic factor when things go wrong."

One of the problems, he said, is that millions of orders stack up overnight for automatic execution at the opening of trading, with a single error potentially creating a deluge of bad trades.

Knight said its principal broker-dealer subsidiaries were fully compliant with their net capital requirements despite the pretax loss of about $440 million that has "severely impacted" the parent company's capital base.

The U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission and the Financial Industry Regulatory Authority are looking into Knight's trading error, according to William Brodsky, CEO of top U.S. options market CBOE Holdings Inc.

"It's obvious that it appears that there was a technology glitch in the trading algorithm," Brodsky told analysts on Thursday. "All markets have rules to address these types of situations."

On July 18, Knight reported second-quarter earnings of $3.3 million, down 81 percent from a year earlier after recording a $35.4 million pretax trading loss from the Facebook initial public offering. The company has not yet filed its second-quarter report with regulators.

Knight's average daily U.S. equities market-making volume has fallen from a year ago as trading volumes have declined across the stock market. Daily market-making volume was $19.5 billion in June, a 12 percent decline from a year earlier.

More than 83 million shares of Knight stock have changed hands on Thursday, making it the most actively traded issue on U.S. exchanges.

Woman Lifts Car, Saves Dad in Virginia

Lauren Kornacki, a 22-year-old Virginia woman, is being hailed as a hero, even a real-life Superman. Or Superwoman, to be more accurate.

It may not be far off. She reportedly lifted a car off her dad, who had been crushed while working under it, and performed CPR to save him.

Alec Kornacki was in the family garage working on a car when a jack holding it up slipped, according to Kristen Kornacki, Lauren's sister.

Lauren Kornacki found her father pinned to the ground, unresponsive.

"She proceeded to lift up the car, pull him out and then give him CPR," said Kristen Kornacki of Lauren, who is trained as a lifeguard.

"It flashed like, oh my God, I'm going to lose my dad," she told the affiliate. "I just knew I had to get his heart beating again."

She did. Despite some broken ribs, Alec Kornacki survived and is being treated at Virginia Commonwealth University Medical Center.

According to his Kristen, Alec Kornacki is "healing fantastically."

"He is walking and talking and laughing and joking. He's feeling pretty good overall," she said. "He's Superman, that's for sure."

Texas US Senate nominee Cruz credits tea party

HOUSTON (AP) ? Former Texas Solicitor General Ted Cruz says his victory in a primary runoff for the GOP Senate nomination is a testament to the hard work of tea party leaders and other grass-roots conservatives.

Cruz, who has never held political office, beat Texas Lt. Gov. David Dewhurst in Tuesday's runoff.

Cruz told a crowd of more than 200 supporters at a Houston hotel ballroom that every conservative in Texas came together and won the runoff. He thanked his many supporters, including former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin.

Cruz was joined on stage by his family.

He says if he wins in November, he will work to repeal President Barack Obama's healthcare reform, "stop the out of control spending and turn around our national debt."
