Sandra Bullock On 'Extremely Loud And Incredibly Close' Screen Time, Comeback (VIDEO)

Following her Oscar win for 2009's "The Blindside," Sandra Bullock decided to leave show business for a little while. With a new son and a divorce, she had a lot to deal with, to say the very least. Now, she's making her comeback, but instead of a major starring role, she's playing support in an upcoming ensemble tearjerker.

Bullock co-stars in "Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close" as the widow of a man, played by Tom Hanks, who died in the September 11th attacks in New York City. She has only 24-minutes of screen time, as she mostly plays guide to her on-screen son Thomas Horn as he searches for a secret he believes his father left for him before he died.

The Oscar-winner spoke with the Today Show on Thursday about the decision to star in the Jonathan Safron Foer novel adaptation, eschewing ego for a chance to feature in a film that really moved her.

"I've already had those moments [as a leading lady], I think," she said. "I mean, there might be more, I don't know, but I don't know how many moments and opportunities like this there'll be -- with stories like this, with directors and casts like this -- It's like the rare moments in life where all the elements are there, and they all come together for some strange or bigger reason. You can't say no to that."
